It's hardest, they say, when their moms and dads leave ... and when they come back. Only to leave again.
Sons and daughters whose next of kin fight the enemy on foreign soil are banding together as part of a new, locally created Military Teen Advisory Board.
Last week, near the beach at Maumee Bay State Park, about 20 teens from Lucas, Wood, and Fulton counties participated in the board's first organized event, a blend of fun-in-the-sun activities and team-building lessons. Participants laughed, learned, and shared heart-tugging stories of how they deal with their lives as military teens.
Teens whose moms, dads, sisters, brothers, or other close relatives serve in the military need opportunities to get together to talk and to have fun, said Kayla York, a Pettisville High School student who is president of the advisory board.
