Military Family Resources

Being a military teen has its moments – from visiting places many people can only dream of to having fun with your newfound friends at your new school. There are definitely rites of passage that should be savored and enjoyed while they last.

Unfortunately, for many teens that are members of a military family, another rite of passage has now become an integral and vital part of your lives – watching one or both of their parents deploy.

Provided is a list of resources for military teens and families to assist in preparing for, managing and coping with deployments and relocation.

General Resources

AfterDeployment.org- Wellness resources for the military community.

American Red Cross- The American Red Cross can help you contact a military member in the event of an emergency. Contact your local Red Cross chapter for information.

MilitaryDutyStations- Whether you are new to the military or a seasoned PCS veteran, you will find it packed with valuable moving tips and suggestions to make you PCS with less stress!

Military Child Education Coalition- The Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC) is working to solve the challenge of helping schools and military installations deliver accurate, timely information to meet transitioning parent and student needs, and in the development and education of children from military families.

Militaryk12Link- This website provides school information for service members serving in the following Hampton Roads military installations: Joint Base Langley Eustis (Langley Air Force Base and Fort Eustis), Fort Monroe, Naval Station Norfolk, Naval Support Activities, Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek, Naval Air Station Oceana/Dam Neck, Joint Expeditionary Base Fort Story, Naval Weapons Station Yorktown, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, as well as the Coast Guard 5th District, and Coast Guard Training

National Military Family Association- NMFA provides resources and support to spouses and children of Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, NOAA and PHS.

Army

Army OneSource- Army Family Programs offer a comprehensive array of programs and services dedicated to maintaining the readiness of Soldiers, Families and communities.

Army Family Action Plan- AFAP is an Army-wide program to improve Army quality of life. Through AFAP, all members of the Army, including Active, Reserve, and National Guard Soldiers, family members, retirees, surviving spouses, DA Civilians, and military technicians have a forum to voice concerns to Army leadership and make recommendations for change.

Army Family Team Building- Army Family Team Building is an educational program whose primary objective is to improve the overall readiness of the force by teaching and promoting personal and family readiness through standardized, progressive and sequential education to family members; however, the program can be used flexibly to meet the needs of the individual audience.

Navy

Navy-Marine Corp Relief Society- The mission of the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society is to provide, in partnership with the Navy and Marine Corps, financial, educational, and other assistance to members of the Naval Services of the United States, eligible family members, and survivors when in need; and to receive and manage funds to administer these programs.

Navy Family Ombudsmen- Navy Family Ombudsmen are key resources for family members, particularly during deployments.Fleet and Family Support Services- Fleet and Family Support Programs (FFSP) support individual and family readiness and adaptation to life in the Navy. Programs include deployment support for Sailors and their families, personal and family wellness education, family counseling, emergency preparedness and response crisis intervention and more.

Air Force

Air Force Airman and Family Support- One-stop location for Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, reserve and national members/families to access on off base information worldwide.

Marines

Marine Corps Community Services- To help meet the demands of the challenging lifestyle that our families experience everyday, MCCS offers a variety of programs that help build strong families.

Coast Guard

Coast Guard Family Readiness Programs- You and your family members may not be together when an emergency strikes. Planning ahead for various emergencies will improve your chances of keeping in touch, staying safe, and quickly reuniting.
